Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company has participated in the Energy and Water Conservation Expo 2010 held at the Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Centre during the period from June 14 to 16.

The event was sponsored by National Oil and Gas Authority (NOGA) and organized by Electricity and Water Authority (EWA) in cooperation with the Bahrain Society of Engineers.

Works Minister and the Minister in Charge of the Electricity and Water Authority (EWA) Fahmi Al Jodar accompanied by H.E Dr. Abdul Hussain bin Ali Mirza, Minister of Oil, Gas Affairs and Chairman of the National Oil and Gas Authority and UAE Minister of Energy Mohammed bin Dha'en Al Hamili, toured the stands of the participating companies.

The ministers were briefed by the exhibitors on the latest technologies used to increase production. Upon their visit to the GPIC’s stand, the ministers were received by GPIC General Manager Mr. Abdul Rahman Jawahery who presented to them the international Award of Excellence in Health and Safety from the Royal Society for the prevention of Accident, UK. The Award was won by the GPIC for the sixth time.

Mr. Abdul Rahman Jawahery briefed the guests on the environmental friendly Carbon dioxide recovery plant which has been successfully commissioned last December under the patronage of H.E Shaikh Isa bin Ali AL Khalifa, the GPIC’s Board Chairman. GPIC is one of the first petrochemical companies in the Middle East to embark on a 450 MT/day Carbon Dioxide Recovery (CDR) Project, to cut down Green House Gas (GHG) emissions and improve overall efficiency of resources by having additional production of Methanol and Urea in its complex.

Such project is aligned with Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030. It also comes in accordance with the country’s effort to compact the climate change. Its worth mentioning that the project was developed under the United Nations’ Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) and was presented during the climate change conference held last December in Copenhagen.

Their Excellencies the Ministers expressed their deep pride in the significant achievements accomplished by the company, stressing their great appreciation to the efforts exerted by H.E Shaikh Isa bin Ali AL Khalifa, GPIC Board Chairman and Board members.

The Ministers also praised the company’s efforts to develop its human resources by providing them with necessary training, appropriate atmosphere and motivation towards creativity and teamwork, which made the company a great wonderful example of fruitful Gulf cooperation. They noted that GPIC has become today a source of pride for Bahrain oil and gas industry.

Praising his continuous support to the company’s activities and operations, GPIC General Manager Mr. Abdul Rahman Jawahery thanked oil and gas affairs minister and Noga chairman Dr Abdul Hussain Mirza for his steady efforts to develop the company and implement such project that will fuel economic growth and improve living standards.

Regarding the company’s participation in the Energy and Water Conservation Expo 2010 Mr. Abdul Rahman Jawahery said that taking place in such seminar is a matter of great importance, noting the great importance of this Expo which has provided a unique platform to meet all the professionals from related industry under one roof to discuss creating alternatives to power and water in order to meet the increased future demand of power and water in the country and the Gulf arena.” It is also an opportunity to promote the latest technologies, products and services available in the electricity and water field” he added.

Beside the GPIC, the company stand at Expo 2010 included also Bahrain Petroleum Company (BAPCO) and Bahrain National Gas Company (BANAGAS) - all under the National Oil and Gas Authority (Noga) umbrella.
