24/06/2010 GPIC Speech club held a joint meeting with members from the Saudi Speech Club Ofouq on Wednesday, 9th of June at the company club situated in West Eker.
Beside the two clubs, 45 members representing Speech Clubs in the Saudi Kingdom participated in the meeting which was also attended by the District 79's Deputy Governor for education and training affairs Mr. Khalid Al-Quood.
The District 79 includes all Toastmasters Clubs in the Gulf Region and Jordan. During the meeting, speeches dealing with current issues were delivered, prizes then were handed out to the winners. Commending the gathering, Mr. Khalid thanked the Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company for hosting and supporting such event which helped the members to improve their communication, public speaking and leadership skills. On behalf of the Saudi Speech Clubs representatives, Mr. Abdul Razak Turky, the Saudi Deputy Governor for education and training affairs and Mr. Abdulaziz Aldlijan, expressed their satisfaction at the growing cooperation with GPIC Speech Club, admiring the well organized event and the valuable deliberations and discussions that took place during the meeting. They stressed their keenness to participate in more future events. For his part, GPIC General Manager Mr. Abdul Rahman Jawahery welcomed the honourable guests from Saudi Arabia and thanked them for attending such event, stressing that frequent exchanges of visits brings real benefits to our GCC countries and the GPIC which is considered to be a great wonderful example of fruitful Gulf cooperation. Mr. Jawahery also thanked Ofouq Speech Club headed by Mr. Zakayia Sulaiman for the effective participation, praising the Toastmasters which offer programs of communication and leadership projects designed to help learn the arts of speaking, listening, and thinking. Mr. Jawahery stressed that the GPIC was always keen to apply the Toastmasters program in order to develop management skills of its employees. ” It is also part of the company’s social responsibility as it helps people from all backgrounds learn to effectively speak, conduct a meeting, manage a department or business and motivate” he added. It is worth mentioning that Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company has provided generous financial support to the Toastmasters annual conferences over the past three years and proudly hosted the World Champions of Public Speaking, Mark Brown who gave a powerful fun-filled interactive unique presentation titled "From Penpoint to Platform" in an impressive sensational setting at the Bahrain Sheraton Hotel. GPIC Speech Club has won three prestigious awards at the annual conference of Public Speaking Clubs held in Kuwait last month. Meanwhile, the Toastmasters Club is an international non-profit organization that focuses on developing public speaking and communication skills. It is present in 70 countries and has 9,600 clubs with a membership of 195,000 people. |
