Education & GPIC Environment Fund

 

In line with the Company commitment towards its society, environment and welfare of the youngsters of Bahrain, GPIC launched in last academic year its socio-environmental programme; "Education & GPIC Environment Fund" in collaboration with the Ministry of Education in the Kingdom.

1. Objectives:

"Education & GPIC" Environment Fund programme is aiming at:

  • Enhancing scientific research skills amongst students of Bahrain schools.
  • Enhancing student awareness toward saving the environment.
  • Fostering a healthy competition amongst school students and hence tapping-in their creativity and innovation, specially on environmental projects.

2. Secretariat:

Education & GPIC Environmental Fund Programme Secretariat is the administrator of the programme. The Secretariat is composed of representatives from Ministry of Education, GPIC and independent environmental specialists.

3. Application and Selection Procedure:

Interested students in participating in the programme shall:

  • Fill in the application form, which can be loaded from the web site on the internet. The student shall propose a title to the project and give a brief description on the proposal and the anticipated outcome of the project.
  • Each project shall be supervised by a teacher from the school faculty. The name of the supervisor shall be specified on the form.
  • Application forms shall be signed by the school principal.
  • Dully filled application forms shall be forwarded to the Programme Secretariat not later than the 16th of November, 2006.
  • The Programme Secretariat shall select the best projects from the forwarded applications.
  • Each selected project of the twenty will receive a fund of maximum of BHD 250 each. Payment will be done on two installments depending on the progress of the project.
  • Every one school can submit more than one application, however one project, as a maximum, will be selected from each school.
  • Two students, as a maximum, can participate in each project.
  • Projects shall start after intimation of selection. Last day of project completion and report submission is the 26th of April, 2007.
  • The Secretariat will follow-up on the progress of the projects with the project supervisors as deemed necessarily.
  • Projects will be judged on the outcome of the project, applicability of the results, its benefits on Bahrain's environment as well as on the written report.
  • Student shall prepare a brief presentation about the project methodology and its outcomes. Presentation skills will be also bear some credits in the overall judgment.
  • The 1st three Winners will be selected amongst the twenty contenders based on the overall judgment results.
  • All the twenty contenders as well as the 1st three winners will be marked in a special ceremony for this purpose.

4. Research Categories:

Researches and projects can be of any one of the following categories:

  • Pollution control.
  • Power and water conservation.
  • Recycling and re-use.
  • Protection of wild life and marine resources
