Labour and Social Development Minister H.E. Mr. Jameel Humaidan, accompanied by Ministry officials, visited the Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC) yesterday (July 9) and held talks with its President, Dr. Abdulrahman Jawahery, Senior Company Executives and Labour Union Chairman and representatives.

The two sides discussed means of enhancing existing cooperation between the Ministry and the Company for the benefit of the development of Bahraini manpower in general and Company employees in particular.

Dr. Jawahery conveyed to the Minister the greetings of the Chairman and members of the Board of Directors and praised the Ministry’s role in developing and modernizing the labor market by applying legislation and regulations. He stressed this would have a positive impact on Bahrain’s development.

Dr. Jawahery stressed on the importance of strengthening social partnership to improve the labour market, raise its competence and  improve productivity to benefit Bahrain’s economy.

H.E. the Minister praised GPIC’s efforts to strengthen the national economy and said the quality of its products conform to the highest international standards, making it gain a solid reputation worldwide.

H.E. the Minister also praised Dr. Jawahery’s contribution to the development of Bahrain’s petrochemical industry and applauded his leadership, which led to GPIC winning several international awards.

H.E. the Minister congratulated Dr. Jawahery for having received the Order of the Italian President for his role in the development of Bahraini-Italian relations as well as being named the United Nations Ambassador to promote its sustainable development goals. Dr. Jawahery was applauded for GPIC recently winning the Queen Elizabeth II Award from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (ROSPA).

H.E. the Minister said the efforts of the Dr. Jawahery-led team led to GPIC winning many international awards. This, he said, reflected global confidence in Bahrain’s capabilities as an influential player in the petrochemical industry. He said the Company boldly facing challenges and giving incentives for optimum utilization of resources helped it achieve the very best. He said the hard work contributed to developing the Company's work system and helped it win coveted international awards.

H.E the Minister praised the healthy relationship between the Company Management and its employees and said this reflected positively on its overall performance and created a work environment that motivated workers from giving their best and increasing productivity.

He said the stress on investment in human resources contributed to making GPIC well-known among establishments that have a high level of Bahrainisation. He also praised the role of the petrochemical sector in supporting the national economy.

H.E the Minister praised GPIC’s success as a joint venture between Gulf countries and said it was a privilege for a Bahraini Company to provide the best facilities for all its employees, in addition to a stimulating and encouraging environment and continuous training at the highest level.

H.E. Mr. Humaidan praised the Company's policy to qualify its national cadres to take up leadership positions and said GPIC’s Bahrainisation rate is one of the highest.

He spoke about the Company's commitment to safety, health and professional standards and for providing a safe working environment, which enabled it to obtain local, regional and international certification.

He said it is this commitment that led to GPIC winning the Queen Elizabeth II Safety Award from ROSPA. He said the Ministry pays great attention to occupational safety in the workplace to protect workers, especially in companies where the nature of work required commitment to occupational safety and health standards. He also noted GPIC’s contribution and role in providing support to charities and civil society organizations.

H.E the Minister thanked Dr. Jawahery and others for his warm welcome and hospitality and wished the Company more success.
