Minister of Oil H.E. Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa visited the Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC) stand at the Bahrain pavilion during the opening of the two-day 8th Gulf Petrochemical and Chemical Association (GPCA) Conference and Exhibition.

H.E the Minister was accompanied by GPIC Chairman, H.E. Dr. Ahmed Al Sharyan, its President, Dr. Abdulrahman Jawahery and a number of members of the Executive Management.

H.E. the Minister was briefed on the Company's operations and high quality products. He also reviewed GPIC’s achievements, including its contribution to community service, health, environment and safety.

H.E. the Minister also learnt about several awareness publications on the safety and the environment and how the Company is keen to promote those concepts within the community.

With the help of images and illustrations, the minister was briefed on GPIC’s development of its factories and facilities. He was told of the Company’s achievements and the several awards it had won in the areas of quality, production, safety, and occupational health and the environment.

Among these are the Corporate Social Responsibility Award for 2017, which was given during the annual celebration organized by the Arab Network for Corporate Social Responsibility in Dubai.

The Minister expressed admiration at GPIC’s advanced level in terms of its infrastructure and products as well as its attention to human resources. He said the Company had become an industrial edifice that had made Bahrain proud.

H.E. the Minister praised the Company's participation in the conference and expressed his admiration for efforts exerted by its managers in preparing for event. He said GPIC’s presence at the event enriched the deliberations.

H.E. the Minister also praised GPIC’s achievements in the last few years and the high quality of its products. He spoke about the Company’s contributions and its role in supporting specialized conferences and events and said it had gained a reputation as a distinctive industrial enterprise in the region.

H.E. the Minister stressed the importance of attracting such regional and international exhibitions and conferences to Bahrain and said it highlighted the progress made by the country’s petrochemical and fertilizer industry. He thanked the Chairman, the Board of Directors, the President and the executive management for their efforts to develop the Company's business, which was a source of pride.

In his comments, Dr. Jawahery thanked the minister for his visit and for appreciating GPIC’s role in the industry and the community.

The President said GPIC's participation was a good opportunity to promote Bahrain as an important venue for specialized conferences. He said Bahrain has proved to possess great potential to host and organize major conferences.

The conference is being held in co-operation with the GPIC under the patronage of the Minister of Oil. Various topics and work papers covering issues such as current and future developments in global markets and other related topics will be discussed.

A special workshop at the event will be attended by students from local and Gulf universities who have been invited to attend the conference sessions and to learn more about the importance of the vital role it plays. The workshops aim to create future leaders for the industry in the Gulf region.

The conference, which is being held for the first time in Bahrain, is being attended by key figures in the fertilizer industry in the Arab region and beyond, in addition to fertilizer consumers, government representatives, innovative technical companies for manufacturing technologies, as well as specialized institutions and international institutions concerned with the fertilizer industry.
