The Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC) sponsored representatives of the National Initiative for the Development of the Agricultural Sector to take part in the Ninth Fertilizer Conference organized by the Gulf Petrochemicals and Chemicals Association (GPCA) in Muscat, Oman.

This came in line with the directives of the company’s Board of Directors and its policies supporting Bahrain’s agricultural sector as also the its interest in providing promising opportunities for those interested in this sector.

The idea was for them to benefit from presentations and deliberations at the specialised event, which was an opportunity to learn about the latest technologies and innovations in the agricultural sector.

In a statement, GPIC President Dr. Abdulrahman Jawahery said GPIC puts sustainable development and environmental care among its priorities. He said the Management is keen to nurture environmental and green projects.

The National Initiative for the Agricultural Sector is Chaired by Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, the wife of His Majesty the King.

Dr. Jawahery said that in addition to benefiting from the lectures and specialized workshops, the Company aimed at promoting the King Hamad Agricultural Development Award, launched by the initiative to achieve objectives that contribute to development and food security.

Secretary General of the National Initiative for the Development of the Agricultural Sector H.E. Sheikha Maram bint Isa Al Khalifa praised GPIC’s role in supporting its activities and programmes to contribute to its development and sustainability.

Her Excellency said Dr. Jawahery is keen to support the activities of the initiative and to ensure active participation in its programmes, especially the annual garden show. She thanked the company for its sponsorship, stressing that the participants benefited greatly.

The King Hamad Agricultural Development Award was launched to create a positive competitive environment among agricultural entrepreneurs, farmers and researchers and for the agricultural sector to improve. The award includes the best agricultural project, the best Bahraini farm and the best agricultural studies and research. Each category has two awards.

The Muscat event attracted key players in the strategic industry in the Arab world and beyond, as well as fertilizer consumers and government representatives, who exchanged information and experiences on the latest developments in the fertilizer industry, explore and discuss key issues related to food security and long-term strategies to manufacture fertilizers as well as enhance the competitiveness of companies and industrial enterprises while preserving the environment.
