Arab Fertilizer Association (AFA) Chairman Dr. Awad Al-Saber Mabrouk visited Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC) on Wednesday 28 August 2019. Several members of the AFA Board accompanied Dr. Al-Saber, who was in Bahrain to attend an AFA General Council Meeting.

GPIC President Dr. Abdulrahman Jawahery and members of the company’s executive management received the visiting delegation and conveyed to them the greetings of the Chairman and the Board of Directors. Dr. Jawahary praised the AFA’s strategic and important role and said it is a leading platform for fertilizer companies within the Arab world.

Dr. Jawahery briefed the AFA delegation on GPIC’s business philosophy and operational strategy as well as the activities it is involved in to support the community.

The AFA delegation were also told about GPIC’s operations, production and exports. This included a review of the company’s achievements in the areas of safety, quality and preservation of the environment.

The visiting delegation were briefed on the carbon dioxide recovery project as well as the programmes and activities of the Learning and Leadership Academy and the eLearning Centre.

The guests had a tour of the complex, where they saw the plants and environmental projects that reflect GPIC’s attention to the balance between industry and the environment. They were briefed on the Princess Sabeeka Garden for Aromatic Plants and the Medicinal Herbs Garden set up to preserve rare herbs that were used historically for medicinal and therapeutic purposes.

Dr. Al-Saber also planted a sapling to commemorate his visit and as a gesture of his support of the environment.

The AFA Chairman and his accompanying delegation expressed gratitude at the generosity and hospitality they received from Dr. Jawahery and his team. They said GPIC is a role model for other companies in the region to emulate. Dr. Al-Saber described his visit as an opportunity to look closely at an industrial model that is aware of the environment, and supports it through impressive environmental projects. He expressed his admiration at GPIC’s activities and programmes outside the scope of its industrial specialization and as part of its social responsibility towards the local community. He said this proves GPIC’s impressive leadership at both industrial and social levels.
