GPIC organised a sporting week dedicated to a range of activities, in which the company’s employees and contractors took part.

  

The activity was part of the initiative launched by His Royal Highness Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, the Prime Minister, to celebrate a national sporting day on February 11 every year. The initiative has been implemented by His Highness Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Personal Representative of His Majesty the King for Charity and Youth Affairs, President of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee.

  

The events were organized at the company’s complex in Sitra as well at the GPIC Club, where a special ceremony was organised to emphasize the importance of all kinds of sports because of its benefits in maintaining health, in addition to treating obesity and preventing disease, especially heart disease and diabetes.

  

GPIC President Dr. Abdulrahman Jawahery hailed the initiative and said it witnesses a lot of interest from the government and private sector. He praised the wise vision of His Royal Highness Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, the Prime Minister and thanked him for launching the sporting day, which reaffirms the unlimited support of the wise leadership. He said this initiative will go a long way in promoting physical activity, which is very important for all groups.

  

Dr. Jawahery noted the importance of the role of sport in the lives of individuals and society as a whole and said it is one of the factors affecting the development of societies. He said several countries have a great passion for sports and their governments are developing advanced programms, various activities and modern strategies.

Dr. Jawahery invited public and private bodies, ministries and institutions to participate in the events on the occasion and stressed the importance of sport, which should be daily behavior and practice. He said GPIC has organized sports programmes and events in celebration of this day, during which it aims to achieve the desired goals and maximize its benefits.

He said Bahrain has proven beyond reasonable doubt that it is moving forward in achieving the goals of sustainable human development and building the physical and mental capacity of people in the country.
