PresidentGPIC organised a sports week dedicated to a range of activities, in which the company’s employees and contractors took part.  The initiative was launched on Tuesday 9 February 2021, the occasion of the Kingdom of Bahrain’s Annual Sports Day, by His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, His Majesty the King’s Representative for Humanitarian Works and Youth Affairs, National Security Advisor and Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports Affairs.  

The virtual initiatives were organized at the GPIC Complex while adhering to the COVID-19 precautionary and health measures, to emphasize the importance of sports benefits in maintaining health, in addition to treating obesity and preventing heart disease and diabetes.

GPIC’s President Dr. Abdulrahman Jawahery hailed the initiative and said it saw a lot of interest from the government ministries and private sector companies. He praised the wise vision of the Kingdom of Bahrain’s Leadership in supporting sports and athletes and promoting physical activity to benefit all age groups and demographics. 

Dr. Jawahery noted the importance of the role of sport in the lives of individuals and society as a whole and said it is one of the factors affecting the further development of some societies. He said several countries have a great passion for sports and their governments are developing advanced programmes, various sporting activities and modern strategies.

Dr. Jawahery invited public and private bodies, ministries and institutions to participate in the events on the occasion and stressed the importance of sport, which should be a daily habit and practice. He said GPIC has organized sports programmes and events in celebration of this day, during which it aims to achieve the desired goals and maximize sporting benefits.

He continued that the Kingdom of Bahrain has proven beyond reasonable doubt that it is moving forward in achieving the goals of sustainable human development and building the physical and mental capacity of people in the Kingdom.
