Dr. Abdulrahman Jawahery, President of Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company, received His Excellency Mr. Piyush Shrivastav, Ambassador of India to the Kingdom of Bahrain.  Dr. Jawahery welcomed H.E. The Indian Ambassador, conveying to His Excellency the greetings of their Excellencies the Chairman and members of the company’s Board of Directors.  He briefed him on the modernization carried out at the plants and facilities and the state-of-the-art systems that are used in the operational processes, as well as GPIC’s occupational safety procedures, which are of global standards.

The company's President explained the company's plans and future strategies, through which GPIC seeks to expand its markets and projects outside the Kingdom. He also gave H.E. a brief of the company's products, which are in high demand due to their exceptional quality, contributing to the company's many awards and establishing GPIC as one of the best producers of petrochemicals at both regional and global levels.

The meeting included extensive discussions on the impact to the global economy following the outbreak of COVID-19 and the future challenges that the petrochemical industry may face as direct results of this pandemic.  His Excellency was briefed on the approach taken by GPIC since the beginning of the pandemic and flexible plans established to maintain the sustainability of its operations whilst always considering the safety of its employees.

Dr. Jawahery added that GPIC has close relations with many prestigious companies overseas, including partners in the Republic of India.  The President reiterated that the Indian market is of great significance, and one of the most important markets the company exports its products to.  GPIC exported approximately 1,334,980 metric tonnes of ammonia, urea and methanol to the Republic of India during the period from January 2011 to June 2021, with total sales of $352 million. He explained that the company has a strong presence in the Indian tenders for the urea product throughout the year, as the sale is carried out directly to the Indian government or through dealers. 

Talking about the relationship between the Indian companies Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company, H.E. the Ambassador of India said that the relations are celebrated and that he hopes that India will be considered for in the projects that the company intends to implement in its overseas expansion plans.    

Sales of GPIC’s product to the Republic of India represent 11% of the company’s total sales of all products over the past ten years. 

Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company, in coordination with Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC), has already started implementing the initial procedures to register GPIC as an approved company to export methanol to India in accordance with the methanol specification set by the Bureau of Standards of India (BIS).
