Dr. Jawahery continued that the award is a landmark event and catalyst to the rapid advancement of gender equality, which is a very critical issue especially with COVID-19 threatening to roll back women’s achievements in empowerment everywhere in the world.

He added that this esteemed Global Award strives to hear and further echo the voices of women everywhere in the world, young women, elderly women, women with disabilities, women workers and women professionals across all sectors; this is accomplished by engaging women as beneficiaries and contributors towards achieving the Fifth Sustainable Development Goal on gender balance and women empowerment.

Dr Jawahery stressed it was particularly fitting to discuss the Kingdom of Bahrain’s relentless efforts to coach the principles of women’s empowerment mainly economically, recognizing that investing in women is a financially smart move. The Kingdom is leading by example, Labour Force statistics showed that employment in the Private Sector is 67%, of which the percentage of Bahraini women is 35%, with 40% of those in the financial and banking sector. Employment in the Public Sector represents 34% and so the Private Sector are the driving force behind economic sustainability and providing job opportunities for females.

It is also significant he added that the Private Sector is a crucial ally in advancing women’s economic empowerment. Companies, by embracing and supporting women as workers, consumers, producers, and suppliers; act as a catalyst for change and a supportive partner in progress of women’s empowerment. Investing in women also brings several benefits such as; risk reduction, supply chain stability; better financial performance and agility, creativity and innovation enablement.  GPIC recognise that its involvement and contribution through its gender equality policies and procedures, is considered key towards the success and sustainability of women’s empowerment.
